errr, when you say that you're not having problem with AMR, does it mean that Batoto is working fine on your pc? Coz I don't even remember when was the last time AMR showed updates from batoto. =p

I initially said that i couldn't read anything on Batoto using AMR so thought that it was a problem with AMR. I then retracted that statement after I found out that it was actually a problem with Batoto's website. Apparently their site was getting DDoS "attacks" in high volume causing their server to basically keel over and die.

In short, AMR worked fine all along. Batoto reader was down because of it's server issues.

also, you could still view batoto manga using AMR. It wouldn't tell you you had any new chapters but if you clicked the next button you'd be able to go to the next new chapter. You just couldn't get updates...until just now for me that is. My AMR just started popping up with updates

Dunno if that means relations between AMR and Batoto admin have been resolved but i'm glad something is moving forward Whatever you did...awesome job Polo!

Wow finally AMR has started popping up with updates ,I thought AMR has been updated but it didn't seem so, maybe the server moving of batoto http://www.batoto.net/forums/topic/4530-server-move/ has something to do with this .Hopefully the problem with batoto can be fixed soon .

Hello,

Batoto has never made any policy towards any applications made regarding us. AMR however has become an exception as it's abusive towards our servers.

A single AMR user would use as much as hundreds of regular users in terms of performance required from us. So, I'm sure you can see why we wouldn't like this. There are two primary abusive natures you need to address.

1. Requesting hundreds pages in an instant isn't acceptable. For example, Google only crawls our site 1 page every 4.6 seconds to prevent burden and ONLY after it has been fully received. I've seen a single AMR user who requested hundreds of pages in an instant which would have a greater impact than the entire live users combined. Add a delay between the requests, and/or only request once it's been received.
2. The entire concept of probing all the comics followed all the time for all the user is just inefficient. If you really wanted to pass this information efficiently, you should do it only once and cache it in your server. Then your user would only need to make one request for all the follows. One user, one request. Not one user numerous requests.

Will I ever support AMR? Not likely.
You have to understand, it costs me to run this server and to distribute the images, no one else. Quite frankly, it costs me a lot. Additionally, we exist to assist the scanlations groups financially as well. That is our goal. Whether they're just browsing normally, using AMR or anything else, it costs me. But AMR will rip out all the ads from Batoto. So, I'm at a loss when ever AMR users visit here and the scanlators are deprived of their opportunity. And I'm perfectly willing to take that burden to a degree, but when it becomes a source of instability, I can't really let it pass.

I fixed batoto implementation in 1.3.13 but I need to take measure like (do not request all batoto chapters at the same time) or grumpy will ban us...

For checking for updates, you could just have a single thread that check the list one manga at a time. Even if you had several hundred mangas on your list, it would only take a few minutes, and would not even be noticeable if the update notifications didn't come up till everything was checked. This would spread out the requests, taking less of a toll on the server. If the default update check time was raised it would also help. I'm not sure what it is normally, but people wouldn't really notice if it was raised.

For image loading, you could automatically turn on load in chapter order, and then fetch a few pages at a time rather than loading everything at once. For the next chapter preloading, you could even only fetch one image at a time and it would be quick enough for most people.

Finally, you could fix the problem of removing batoto.net ads even when people have remove ads turned off.

So his answer finally came ... Just as expected, he mentioned all the problems batoto has with AMR , and all of them had been discussed in this topic so long. I think that the first thing you should fix is the ads blocking ,for that is the most harmful to batoto, and the major reason why he can't support AMR. And I'm glad to hear his answer, you did a good job ^^

Apparently batoto just got a few new servers. perhaps that's why the Batoto admin is allowing AMR to access it again?

You got it. I've been doing that since Batoto started having issues with AMR. I mostly have been using Batoto's "follow" option to keep updated and AMR only to read the manga.
